Gross-Maier Dressing Forceps
Skin prep, swabbing a deep wound and passing dressings all go better when your fingers stay well back. Gross-Maier dressing forceps are long holding forceps for exactly that. Our supplier lists them with its dressing forceps, and many teams use them as Gross-Maier sponge forceps for gauze. They come in 20 cm or 25 cm, straight or curved.
Choosing Length: 20 cm or 25 cm
Length sets your reach. The 20 cm versions work well for facial skin prep and oral cavity swabbing. Meanwhile, the 25 cm versions give extra distance for deeper wounds or for handing items across a sterile field. So pick by how far you need to stay from the site.
Straight Jaws or Curved Jaws
On straight Gross-Maier sponge forceps, the jaws line up with the handle, which makes aiming simple. Curved jaws turn to one side, so they reach around a contour or under a drape edge. For example, a curved 20 cm pair helps when swabbing behind the jaw angle. All four combinations are on this page: 20 cm straight, 20 cm curved, 25 cm straight and 25 cm curved.
Loading a Swab Securely
First, fold the gauze into a firm pad. Then grip it near one edge so the jaws hide inside the fold. Also, check the grip with a light tug before use. Because loose gauze can drop into a wound, close the handles fully every time.
How They Reach You
These Gross-Maier sponge forceps leave our warehouse non-sterile; clean and steam-sterilize them before prep work begins. Every pair gets a jaw-closure check by our staff in Georgia, United States. Also, any of the four sizes is backed by three years against manufacturing defects if a jaw or joint fails early.
The stainless steel is rated to ASTM F899. To open the wound for swabbing, add our Langenbeck retractors. Then browse dressing and tissue forceps, or see the FAQs on jaw styles.
