Description

Langenbeck Retractors

Langenbeck retractors are hand-held right-angle blades. They pull back skin, muscle or a mucosal flap. Maxillofacial and general surgeons rely on it to open an incision while an assistant holds steady. Our supplier lists it at 21 cm overall. We offer it with two handle styles and several blade sizes, twelve options in all.

Solid Handle or Ring Handle

The first part of each option name is the handle. A Solid Handle gives a flat, full grip for firm, sustained traction. A Ring Handle lets the assistant hook a finger through the end, which can ease fatigue on long cases. Therefore, choose by how your team prefers to hold retractors.

Decoding the Blade Sizes

The second part gives the blade, length by width, in millimetres:

  • 30×11 mm, 30×14 mm, 30×16 mm: the same 30 mm depth in three widths, for shallow wounds.
  • 40×11 mm: a deeper blade for thicker tissue layers.
  • 50×11 mm: the deepest blade listed, for deeper exposures.
  • 21 cm: the catalogue gives only the overall length for this entry, so compare its photo with the sized options.

So, a narrow 11 mm blade slips into small incisions, while 14 and 16 mm widths hold back more tissue.

Using a Pair

Surgeons often place two Langenbeck blades opposite each other. First, insert both along the incision. Next, pull in opposite directions with even force. Also, release tension periodically during long cases to rest the tissue.

Delivered Non-Sterile, Checked at Home

Langenbeck retractors ship non-sterile; each should be washed and sterilized before entering a field. Inspection of every handle and blade bend happens in the United States. If a blade cracks from faulty material, the twelve versions share one policy: three years against manufacturing defects.

Steel for this line meets ASTM F899. For a different blade profile, see our Kocher retractors, browse the maxillofacial surgery instruments, or open our FAQs about handle styles.

For surgical professionals and trained assistants only. Retractor washing steps appear under care and sterilization, and order dispatch under shipping and delivery.
