Description
Gills-Welsch Capsulotomy Scissors
The Gills-Welsch capsulotomy scissors are a fine 8cm pair for cutting the lens capsule and thin membranes. You can choose straight, curved or angled on flat blades. Each shape changes how the tips meet the tissue, so the right pick depends on your approach.
Gills-Welsch straight blades
Straight blades line up with the handle, so they are easy to aim and give a clear, direct cut. So they suit cuts that run straight ahead from the incision.
Gills-Welsch curved blades
Curved blades, by contrast, follow a gentle arc. That helps when you need to cut along a round edge, such as the rim of a capsule opening. They also keep your hand away from your line of sight.
Gills-Welsch angled on flat
Angled on flat blades bend to one side while staying in the same plane. As a result, the tips can reach across the eye through a small wound. Many surgeons find this shape helpful for cuts that lie off to the side.
Picking your set
- One straight pair for direct cuts
- A curved pair for edges and arcs
- An angled on flat pair for reach through small openings
- All three if you work on many membrane cases
Gills-Welsch joint care
Fine scissors need gentle handling. Close them before storage and keep a guard on the tips. Then clean the joint after each case and dry it fully before sterilizing. Also test the cut on a soft material now and then, because fine blades lose their edge slowly and the change is easy to miss.
All three Gills-Welsch shapes ship non-sterile; regular cleaning and sterilization keep them in service. The blades follow ASTM F899 for surgical stainless. Gills-Welsch pairs carry Gills-Welsch cover for three years against manufacturing defects; Gills-Welsch blade shapes all count.
