Description
Landolt Eye Scissors
Landolt eye scissors are a curved, 12.5 cm pattern. They come in three models: Standard, Extra and Strong. In general, the Landolt name is linked with enucleation, where a sturdy curved pair helps cut behind the globe.
Why a Curve Helps
A curved blade can reach around the back of the eye. So the surgeon can cut deep tissue while seeing more of the field. That is the main reason enucleation scissors are usually curved. It also keeps the surgeon’s knuckles out of the orbit.
Standard, Extra or Strong
The three models share the 12.5 cm curved form. Standard is the regular build. Strong, as its name suggests, is the heavier option for firmer tissue. Extra is a further variant; if you need the exact difference, ask us before ordering.
Landolt Quick Facts
Here is a short summary of the options.
- 12.5 cm length
- Curved blades
- Models: Standard, Extra, Strong
- Reusable after sterilization
Fitting Them Into a Set
Most orbital sets pair Landolt eye scissors with muscle hooks and an enucleation snare or spoon. Then the scissors handle the deeper cuts. However, keep fine scissors for the earlier conjunctival steps. In addition, the Strong model often suits cases where tissue feels firm, while Standard covers routine work.
Care for Sturdy Blades
Heavy blades still need care. After use, rinse and brush the joint well. Then dry and oil the pair, and check that the blades close without a gap.
None of the three models arrives sterile; reprocess them first, and they serve again for many cases. Landolt blades use stainless steel tied to ASTM F899, with each pair checked by hand in the United States. Standard, Extra or Strong, you receive three years against manufacturing defects either way.
