Description

Filling Instruments

This listing is a dental burnisher, a smooth-ended restorative hand instrument. Our supplier catalogue places it on a filling instruments page, captioned simply as burnishers. So, while the product name reads Filling Instruments, the item you receive is the burnisher shown in the photos.

What a Burnisher Does

A burnisher has a polished, rounded working end rather than a cutting edge. Dentists rub it across freshly placed amalgam to smooth the surface and adapt the material toward the margin. It is also used to shape matrix bands against adjacent teeth before the filling goes in. Because there is no blade, the stroke is a firm glide, not a cut.

Single Pattern, Clear Choice

The catalogue offers no figure numbers or sizes for this item. Therefore there is nothing to compare on this page; the photos show the exact working end. If you need numbered burnisher figures, our larger filling instruments listing includes two captioned burnishers, Fig. 31 and Fig. 2/31.

Keeping the Surface Polished

A burnisher only works well while its face stays smooth. So remove amalgam and cement before they harden on it. Also store it apart from sharp tools, since a scratch on the face transfers to the restoration. Then inspect the end under light after each sterilization cycle.

Material and Cover

Its steel conforms to ASTM F899. Our staff in the United States check the polish and shank of each one before shipping. Should the burnisher face or shank prove faulty, you have three years against manufacturing defects to claim a replacement, while scratches from storage with other tools are wear. Because we ship it unsterilized, run the burnisher through your washer and autoclave first.

Smoothing and packing instruments are grouped in our Diagnostic, Periodontal & Restorative Instruments. For a wider choice of figures, see our main Filling Instruments page, and read our FAQs for ordering help.

This dental burnisher is meant for licensed dental professionals only. Read our care and sterilization guide and shipping policy before ordering.
