Description
Explorers
Dental explorers are fine, pointed probes that let the clinician feel tooth surfaces for caries, rough margins and residual calculus. This page holds forty-five options from three explorer pages of our supplier catalogue. So whether you replace one worn tip or equip a new school kit, the figure you know is likely here.
Single-Ended Figures and Their Style 2 Twins
The single figures are Fig. 2, 3, 3A, 3R, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 16, 17, 17A and 23. Most of them, plus Explorer Handle A, also come as Style 2. That version is printed on the next catalogue page, with the same figure on another handle pattern that the supplier leaves unexplained. Therefore compare the two handles in the photos. Also note that the catalogue itself warns buyers to keep handle selection in mind when ordering.
Double-Ended Combinations
Double-ended explorers save a tool change, because each end reaches a different surface. The paired options are:
- Fig. 23/17, 23/17A, 16/23 and 16/3.
- Fig. 6/1, 6/9, 6/17 and 6/23.
- Fig. 11/12AF, and Fig. 2, 2A and 3 in Double-Ended form.
Each pair simply joins two numbered tips, so if you like Fig. 23 and Fig. 17 separately, the 23/17 combines them.
Set Components: ODU 11/12 and Cavity Finder
ODU 11/12 and Cavity Finder come from our supplier’s set lists, where they appear by name only. So they suit an office whose set is missing one piece. Before ordering, compare the photos with the instrument you are replacing.
Steel, Inspection and Cover
Every explorer is drawn from stainless steel compliant with ASTM F899. Tips are sighted for point and bend by a team member in the States before packing. We honour three years against manufacturing defects on each explorer tip and handle, while a point blunted by use is ordinary wear. Explorers ship unsterilized, therefore clean and autoclave them ahead of any examination.
Browse every examination tool in Diagnostic, Periodontal & Restorative Instruments. For pocket readings at the same appointment, add our University of Michigan Probes. Check our FAQs for ordering help.
Dental explorers are supplied to licensed clinicians and hygienists. Read our sterilization instructions and our shipping times before ordering.
