Description
Ewald / Hudson
Ewald hudson forceps are short thumb forceps that periodontists and oral surgeons use to hold tissue, dressings and suture ends. Our supplier catalogue places them on its periodontal instruments page at 12 cm, which is about 5 inches. That compact length works well in the mouth, where longer forceps feel clumsy.
Dressing Version: Serrated Tips
The first option is the 12 cm dressing forceps with serrated tips. The serrations grip gauze, packing and suture without needing much pressure. So this is the version for placing periodontal dressing, removing packs and handling sutures at the end of a case.
Tissue Version: 1:2 Teeth
The second option is the 12 cm tissue forceps with 1:2 teeth. That means one tooth on one tip meets two teeth on the other. Therefore it holds a flap firmly while you suture or reflect it. However, teeth grip harder than serrations, so use them on tissue that will tolerate a secure hold.
Choosing the Right One
Most surgical trays carry both. First, use the toothed version while closing a flap. Then switch to the serrated version to trim suture and place dressing. If you only want one, choose by the task you do most often.
Metal, Checks and Cover
Both forceps are made from stainless steel meeting ASTM F899. Every pair goes through a hands-on review of tip alignment in the US before shipping. Ewald / Hudson forceps that show a defect in their steel or build stay protected for three years against manufacturing defects, excluding sprung tips caused by drops. They come unsterilized, so wash and steam-sterilize them before surgery.
