Description
Elliot Matrix Retainers
Small mouths and crowded arches can make a full-size band holder awkward. The Elliot matrix retainer gives dentists another option for keeping a band tight against a prepared tooth. Once the band is snug, the missing proximal wall is rebuilt in metal, and you can place the filling against it. Then the retainer comes away cleanly after the material sets.
Where the Elliot Sits in the Catalogue
Our supplier lists the Elliot in its adjustable retainer section, alongside Tofflemire and Ivory designs. It is sold as a single pattern, so there is no size or figure to choose. The catalogue gives no length for it; therefore, the product photo is the best guide to its frame shape. If you are replacing an older Elliot, compare the outline with the one in your cassette.
Why Keep More Than One Retainer Type
No single frame suits every tooth. A circumferential holder may block the view on a short molar, while a bulky head can crowd a child’s mouth. So many restorative trays carry a second design for those cases. The Elliot fills that role well, and assistants quickly learn which teeth call for it.
Working With the Band
Fit the band first and check that it extends just below the gingival margin. Next, engage the Elliot and adjust it until the band contacts the tooth evenly. Add a wedge, then burnish the band toward the adjacent tooth so the new contact forms properly. When you finish, release the frame before sliding the band out.
Built From Stainless Steel and Checked by Hand
The retainer is stainless steel. A technician at our United States location opens and closes each Elliot to confirm the mechanism moves freely. Since it leaves our shelves non-sterile, put it through cleaning and a sterilizer cycle on arrival. It is guaranteed for three years against manufacturing defects that affect its function.
Read the ASTM F899 specification for instrument steel, browse the restorative and periodontal section, and pair the Elliot with our Tofflemire matrix retainers for larger teeth. The FAQ library covers everything else.
