Description
Doyen Vaginal Speculum, Slightly Concave
The Doyen vaginal speculum has one slightly concave blade for abdominal and vaginal gynecologic surgery. It comes in four blade lengths and three widths.
Four blade lengths
Fig 1 has a 55 mm blade, and Fig 2 an 85 mm blade. Then Fig 3 reaches 115 mm and Fig 4 reaches 160 mm. So the range runs from shallow vaginal work to deep abdominal exposure.
Width choices
Most figures come in 35, 45 or 60 mm widths. However, Fig 4 comes only in 45 or 60 mm. Therefore, choose a wider blade when you need to hold back more tissue.
A slightly concave blade
The gentle concave shape helps the blade cradle tissue as the assistant draws it aside. By contrast, a flat blade offers less of that cupping effect. Meanwhile, the single-blade design leaves room for other instruments.
Picking a size
Match the Doyen vaginal speculum to wound depth first, then width. For example, Fig 1 suits a shallow vaginal field, while Fig 4 suits deeper abdominal work. Plus, many trays hold two sizes to cover most cases.
Care of Doyen vaginal speculum
Rinse the concave face carefully, because residue can collect in the curve. Next, wash and brush the full length of the instrument. Afterward, dry it completely and store each size so the edges do not touch.
