Description
Dubois Gynecological Scissors
Dubois scissors are long gynecological scissors of about 27 cm. You can order them with straight or curved blades, depending on how your surgeons work deep in the pelvis.
Why length matters
In open pelvic surgery, the deepest tissue can sit far below the skin. So long scissors let the surgeon cut there without crowding the wound. Also, the view stays clear above the hands.
Straight blades
A straight pair cuts along a direct line. Therefore it suits dividing tissue you can see head on at the base of the field. Plus, straight blades work well for cutting sutures at depth, where short scissors cannot reach.
Curved blades
Curved blades follow rounded tissue and angle around structures. Meanwhile, the curve keeps the tips in view. Then the surgeon can dissect along a plane with more control and less wrist movement.
Pairing Dubois scissors
Many deep sets carry one straight and one curved pair. However, you can buy either on its own. So the Dubois scissors fit whatever your preference card calls for.
Reprocessing Dubois scissors
Wipe the blades during the case to keep tissue from hardening on them. Next, clean and inspect them after use, paying attention to the tips. Finally, oil the pivot sparingly before sterilization.
