Description
DeBakey-Pean Atrauma Hemostatic Forceps
DeBakey-Pean forceps combine the familiar Pean hemostat pattern with DeBakey atraumatic jaws. Five lengths and two tip shapes cover most soft tissue and vessel work.
Pean pattern, gentler jaws
A standard Pean grips firmly and can mark delicate tissue. By contrast, DeBakey jaws hold with less crush. So this hybrid suits vessels and any other tissue you want to protect from bruising.
Straight or curved
Straight jaws give a direct line to the tip. Meanwhile, curved jaws let you see around the instrument as you clamp. Then pick curved for work under a ledge of tissue or around a deep structure.
From 14 to 20 cm
The 14, 15 and 16 cm lengths suit shallow fields. Next, the 18 cm size handles moderate depth. Finally, the 20 cm version reaches further into the chest or abdomen.
Where it fits
Cardiovascular and general trays both make use of DeBakey-Pean forceps. For example, surgeons may reach for them to hold a vessel edge or a graft. Also, a straight and curved pair covers most needs without crowding the tray.
Reprocessing DeBakey-Pean forceps
Clean between the jaws with a soft brush, working along the full jaw face. Next, check that the tips meet with no gap as you close them. Then dry each jaw and keep the two shapes apart on the rack.
