DeBakey-Rankin Atrauma Hemostatic Forceps
DeBakey-Rankin forceps pair the Rankin hemostat with DeBakey atraumatic jaws. Choose straight or curved tips in 15 cm or 16 cm.
About the Rankin pattern
Rankin hemostats serve as mid-size clamps on many general trays. Here, DeBakey jaws take the place of the usual grip for a gentler hold. As a result, the instrument crosses over into vascular work.
Straight or curved tips
Choose straight tips when you approach the tissue directly. Otherwise, curved tips help you clamp around a structure while keeping the point in view. Also, many surgeons like one of each on the tray.
Two lengths
The 15 cm and 16 cm sizes differ only slightly. So most teams decide by reach and personal habit. Then keep the preferred length ready for the regular surgeon, with the other as a backup.
When to choose it
Consider DeBakey-Rankin forceps when you want a mid-size hemostat with a softer grip. Because the jaws hold without crushing, they suit vessel edges and grafts. Plus, they work well on general trays too, where a gentle mid-size clamp comes in handy.
Reprocessing DeBakey-Rankin forceps
After surgery, brush the jaw faces clean and flush the hinge. Next, test the closing action and look for any gap at the tips. Finally, dry them and store them open to spare the jaws from constant pressure.
