Crile-Wood Needle Holders, 15 cm
Most suturing in the mouth calls for a holder that is slim enough for access yet firm enough for a curved needle. The Crile Wood needle holder, also written Crile-Wood, fills that brief at about 15 cm. Our supplier catalogue offers it in three versions, and the choice mainly concerns the jaw. Staff in the United States open and close each holder through its ratchet before it is packed.
Standard Jaws Compared With Carbide Inserts
The Standard option is the plain 15 cm pattern with steel jaws. It is a sound, economical choice for routine closures. The two Carbide options, by contrast, add serrated tungsten carbide tips, and the catalogue lists them at 15.3 cm. Carbide is harder than steel, so the serrations keep their bite on the needle for longer. Because of that, busy practices often find the carbide version worth the extra cost. You can spot the carbide models in the photos by their contrasting tips.
Curved, Carbide or Straight, Carbide
Within the carbide pair, the only difference is the jaw line. The Curved, Carbide version angles the tip, which helps when you suture around the arch or behind a molar. The Straight, Carbide version, meanwhile, keeps the needle in line with the handle for a direct feel on anterior and buccal sites. When in doubt, buy the straight one first and later add the curved one for posterior work.
Material, Delivery State and Cover
The body is stainless steel on all three options. Each holder reaches you non-sterile; scrub the jaws, rinse and autoclave it before the first patient. Furthermore, this Crile Wood needle holder carries our assurance of three years against manufacturing defects, including the ratchet and the carbide inserts.
Read the ASTM F899 standard for the stainless grades used in surgery. Other suturing instruments sit in our Maxillofacial Surgery Instruments category. To trim gingival tissue near the suture line, add the Wagner Gum Scissors. Answers on shipping, payment and returns are in our FAQs.
