Description
Crane Pick Root Elevators
The Crane pick elevator is a heavy, pointed tool for roots that will not move on their own. With a crane pick elevator, you set the point into a purchase point and lift. We offer two options, the #8 and the Fig. 6.
What a purchase point is
A purchase point is a small hole you drill into the root or the bone beside it. It gives the pick a firm seat. Then, with the point locked in, you can raise the root in a controlled way.
Heavy pick, not a fine tip
Unlike apexo or root tip picks, the Crane is a strong, heavy tool. So it suits whole roots and firm bone, rather than tiny apical slivers. For those, a finer elevator does the job better.
#8 or Fig. 6
- #8: 15 cm (6 in) long, a classic heavy Crane pick.
- Fig. 6: a second Crane pick option for your tray.
- Both: handy if you want a spare while one is in the autoclave.
We sell each option on its own. If you are new to the pattern, the #8 is a common place to start.
Lift with control
First, prepare a clean purchase point of the right depth. Next, seat the point and set a firm finger rest. Then lift with steady force, never with a jerk. The bone or the root should take the load, not a tooth that is staying. Also, think about the buccal plate if an implant is on the plan.
Keep the point true
A blunt or bent point can slip out of the hole. Therefore, look at it after each use and dress it lightly if it dulls.
Placing an order
Each Crane pick lands at your clinic non-sterile. After a proper wash and sterilization, the pick returns to duty for many more extractions. We have it made to our specification in steel that complies with ASTM F899. In addition, each Crane pick comes backed by three years against manufacturing defects from the first day. For a winged, lever-style tool, look at the Cryer elevator. Browse our root elevators page, or read the Intrace FAQs for ordering help.
