Description
Coupland Root Elevators
Coupland root elevators act like a small chisel with a gouge-shaped blade. You press the curved edge into the PDL space to split the ligament, then wedge the root up and out. Numbers 1 to 3 step up in blade width, so you can go from narrow to wide as the socket opens.
How a Gouge Blade Works
The hollow face hugs the round side of a root. Because of that, force spreads along the root rather than onto one point. Seat the edge, press toward the apex, and then turn the handle a few degrees. Next, hold for a moment so the ligament can give. This slow pace protects thin bone.
Reading the Coupland Options
The ten options cover three ways of sizing the same tool.
- Fig. 1C, 2C and 3C: the graded set, narrow to wide.
- Fig. A1C, A2C and A3C: an alternate pattern of that same graded set.
- Fig. 81A: a further figure in the family.
- 2.0 mm, 2.5 mm and 3.0 mm: blade widths from our surgical list.
So, if you think in figures, pick from the C or A series. If you think in millimetres, choose by width instead. Every option comes as one piece.
A Narrow-to-Wide Sequence
First, use the narrowest blade to free the space around a single root. Then switch up a size as the root starts to move. Finally, the widest blade can finish a stubborn root. Throughout, rest a finger on firm tissue. Also, avoid levering on a neighbor unless it is due for removal as well.
Chisel Action and Implant Plans
A chisel action lets you free a root without bending the buccal wall outward. As a result, more bone may remain for a later implant. In short, steady apical pressure beats a hard twist.
Coupland Care and Cover
The steel conforms to ASTM F899. Its build follows our own specification, with a final check carried out in the United States. On arrival it is non-sterile, and after cleaning and sterilisation you can use it case after case. Our warranty grants three years against manufacturing defects; any fault in the making gets put right. See the complete elevator category, pair it with the concave Bein pattern, or visit our FAQ for order details.
Professional use only. Read our sterilisation guide and delivery details before you order.
