Description
Cooley Atrium Retractor
The Cooley atrium retractor holds back the atrial wall to expose structures inside the heart. Surgeons often use it for mitral valve access.
Exposure inside the heart
Valve work depends on a clear, steady view. So the retractor lifts the atrial wall and keeps it out of the way. Then the surgeon sees the valve without tissue folding back.
Three lengths
We offer 20, 21.5 and 23 cm. Shorter sizes suit smaller patients and shallow exposure. Meanwhile, the 23 cm size reaches a deeper atrium in a large chest.
Choosing the Cooley
Many cardiac teams know the Cooley atrium retractor from training. Because of that familiarity, it often appears on standard valve sets. Also, it pairs well with other atrial retractors for varied anatomy.
Handling notes
Hand the retractor over with the blade pointing away from the recipient. Also, avoid levering it against rigid tissue. Next, check the blade for bends before each use.
Care of Cooley atrium retractor
Rinse the blade face promptly to stop blood drying on it. Clean the full length with a soft brush and warm water. Then inspect the blade edges for burrs before you pack it.
