Castroviejo Bone Calipers
Before an implant goes in, the surgeon needs real numbers: ridge width, mesiodistal space and distance to the neighbouring tooth. Castroviejo calipers give those readings directly on a sliding scale. This page offers five versions, so it helps to know how they differ.
The Two Short 9 cm Models
The first pair are compact 9 cm calipers with a 20 mm scale. One is Straight and the other is set at 45°. The straight jaw reads easily on anterior sites. Meanwhile, the 45° version angles the scale toward the operator when you measure premolar and molar spaces. Both suit small spans where 20 mm is plenty.
Weiss Modified, Straight and Angled 0 to 40 mm
The other three are longer instruments with a 0 to 40 mm scale. According to the catalogue, the Weiss Modified model is 17 cm long. The Straight and Angled models each measure 18 cm. Choose these when you need to span a longer edentulous gap or plan multiple implants. The Angled option, like the 45° short model, improves your view in the back of the mouth.
How Clinicians Use the Readings
First, the caliper confirms whether a ridge is wide enough for the planned implant diameter. Next, it checks spacing between adjacent fixtures. In addition, it can measure graft blocks before fixation. Because the scale is marked on the instrument, the assistant can record values without a separate ruler.
Steel, Checks and Warranty
All five calipers are stainless steel and receive a US inspection before dispatch. They arrive non-sterile, so clean and sterilize them first. If a defect appears in the scale or the hinge, our cover runs three years against manufacturing defects.
Material details follow ASTM F899 for surgical steel. Browse the full Dental Implant Instruments list as well. For checking ridge thickness, add the Bone Thickness Gauge. Common questions are answered in our FAQs.
