Description

Bone Thickness Gauge

A bone thickness gauge reads the distance between two bone surfaces. You place its tips on either side of a ridge, a block graft or a cortical plate. Then you read the thickness from the scale. The catalogue lists this gauge at 180 mm long with a 40 mm range, and it comes in one size.

What a 40 mm Range Covers

Forty millimeters is ample for most oral work. A narrow anterior ridge reads at the low end of the scale. Meanwhile, a thick block harvested from the ramus or symphysis still fits well inside the limit. So one instrument handles both quick checks and graft sizing.

Reach at 180 mm

The 180 mm overall length keeps the scale outside the mouth while the tips sit on bone. As a result, you or your assistant can read the number without leaning over the field. That matters when the flap is open and time counts.

Gauge or Caliper: Choosing for Your Tray

We also stock Castroviejo calipers and a double scale bone caliper. Those are better suited to marking or spacing distances on a surface. This gauge, by contrast, is built around measuring thickness between two faces. Many surgeons therefore keep one of each type. If you want to confirm the handle style, compare the product photos before ordering.

Reading It Accurately

Hold the tips square to the bone. Next, close them gently until both touch without pressing into soft cortex. Finally, read the scale at eye level for the cleanest result.

The gauge is stainless steel conforming to ASTM F899. It also passes a United States inspection of its scale and tips before it ships. Our warranty runs three years against manufacturing defects such as a misaligned scale or loose joint. See the Dental Implant Instruments category for related tools, and add the Castroviejo Bone Calipers for surface marking. More answers are in our FAQs.

Meant for licensed clinicians and trained assistants. The gauge is shipped non-sterile, so reprocess it per Care and Sterilization before patient contact. You can find carrier timing at Shipping and Delivery.
