Description
Babinski Reflex Hammer
A Babinski reflex hammer has a round, flat disc head on a long straight handle, 22 cm in total. The long handle gives you reach and a smooth swing, while the disc lands evenly from any side.
What sets it apart
The disc head is lighter than a Troemner head, so the tap stays gentle. For that reason, many clinicians use it on the arms and on younger patients. In addition, the tapered end of the handle can run along the sole of the foot, which is why the name links to the plantar response.
Babinski reflex hammer or Queen Square?
Both designs use a round head on a long handle. However, the Queen Square handle is thinner and more flexible, so it swings more freely. In contrast, the Babinski handle feels firmer and steadier. So if you like control over pendulum action, choose this one.
Care
Clean the head and handle after each patient with a neutral detergent. Then rinse and dry them, and store the hammer flat so the handle does not bend.
