Description
Bone Caliper, Double Scale
A bone caliper turns a visual guess into a number. This ring-handled design measures ridge width and other bone dimensions directly in the open site. Its double scale lets you read the opening without twisting your head around the patient.
Why Two Scales Help
Chairside reading angles are awkward. Because the scale appears twice, you can take the reading from whichever side faces you, whether you stand at the front or behind the patient. That saves time and reduces misreads when the light is poor.
Ring Handles and Fine Control
Ring handles work like scissors. So, your thumb and finger open and close the tips with fine control, and the tips settle gently on bone rather than snapping shut. Keep the instrument square to the ridge, then read the scale once the tips touch both plates.
Measurements Worth Recording
Most implant teams use the caliper at three points:
- Before drilling, to confirm ridge width at the crest.
- After ridge splitting or expansion, to check the gain.
- When a graft is re-entered, to compare the new width with the original record.
Writing each figure in the chart creates a simple history of the site. Furthermore, those numbers make it easier to choose an implant diameter that leaves bone on both sides.
Accuracy Starts With Care
Our Atlanta staff, based in the United States, open and close every caliper and check that the scale markings are crisp before boxing it. On arrival it is still non-sterile; wash it, dry the joint and steam sterilize it. Then, if the joint or scale proves faulty from production, it qualifies for the caliper warranty of three years against manufacturing defects that we give on this model.
The steel meets ASTM F899 criteria. More measuring tools live in implant instruments, and the bone thickness gauge complements this caliper for single-plate readings. Questions? See our FAQs.
