Description
Dejerine Reflex Hammer
The Dejerine reflex hammer has a barrel shaped head with two flat striking faces, set across a straight handle. You can order it plain or with a needle that screws into the handle end, so one instrument covers reflexes and pinprick testing.
With needle or without
The needle version suits general neurology, because you can check sharp sensation right after the reflexes. On the other hand, the plain version avoids a sharp point in your pocket or bag. Both have the same head and the same price, so the choice depends only on how you work.
Using a Dejerine reflex hammer
Hold the handle near its end and let the head drop onto the tendon. Since both faces are the same, you can turn the hammer freely during the exam. Also, when you use the needle, replace it or clean it according to your facility’s policy before the next patient.
Care
Unscrew the needle first, if fitted. Then clean the head and handle with a neutral detergent, rinse, and dry fully before you reassemble it.
