Lockhart-Mummery Probe

The Lockhart-Mummery probe is a slim fistula probe with a flat, heart shaped handle. Surgeons use the Lockhart-Mummery probe to trace an anal fistula tract and to find its internal opening before treating the tract.

Tip shapes

The manufacturer’s catalogue shows this probe with four tip curves, from fully straight to a tight hook, all 16.5 cm long. A straight tip suits a direct tract, while a curved tip helps you come round the anal canal to the internal opening. In practice, many surgeons keep two shapes on the tray.
