Description
Ziegler Head Mirror
The Ziegler head mirror is the traditional ENT light source you wear. A concave mirror with a small sight hole in its center sits on an adjustable headband, so the Ziegler head mirror reflects a lamp’s light exactly where you look.
How it works
Place a lamp beside and slightly behind the patient’s head. Then tilt the mirror until the bright spot lands on the ear, nose or throat, and look through the central hole. Because the light follows your line of sight, both hands stay free for a speculum, a tongue depressor or an instrument.
Why clinicians still choose a Ziegler head mirror
It needs no battery and no cable, so it never runs flat in the middle of a clinic. In addition, the reflected light has no heat at the head. On the other hand, it needs a separate lamp, so it suits a fixed examination room more than home visits. The manufacturer’s catalogue lists the Ziegler pattern with 90 mm and 100 mm mirrors.
Care
Clean the mirror face with a soft cloth and a glass safe cleaner, since abrasive pads scratch it. Wipe the headband between users, and store the mirror face down on a soft surface.
