Myrtle Leaf Probe

A myrtle leaf probe has a flat blade shaped like a myrtle leaf at its working end. The blade lets you explore, spread and pack. As a result, the myrtle leaf probe does more than a plain round probe.

What the leaf blade does

First, slide the blade into a wound or cavity to open it gently along its natural plane. Then use the flat to guide gauze or medication into place. Because the edges stay blunt, the blade separates tissue rather than cutting it, so it also suits packing after drainage.

Five lengths of myrtle leaf probe

Choose from 13, 14.5, 16, 18 and 20 cm. For example, the short sizes suit ENT and minor procedures, while the long ones reach deeper wounds and body cavities. If you stock one, 16 cm is a practical middle size.

Care

Rinse the blade after use and clean both faces with a soft brush. Then dry it and sterilize to your protocol. Also check the edges for nicks, since a rough edge can catch tissue.
