Stacke Ear Probe

The Stacke ear probe is a short, fine probe, 10 cm long, with a loop at the handle end. Otologists use the Stacke ear probe to explore the ear canal, the drum and the middle ear, especially when only a light touch is safe.

Built for feel

First, the fine shaft transmits every contact back to your fingers. Also, the loop handle lets you hold the probe very lightly, which matters near the drum and the ossicles. As a result, you can check mobility or feel a defect without pressing hard.

Choosing a Stacke ear probe

Choose it for microscope work, because a short instrument keeps your hand steady there. By contrast, the double ended Jobson Horne probe suits general wax removal and cleaning. Many clinics therefore keep both.

Care

Handle the fine tip with care, since a bent tip loses its feel. After use, rinse it and wash it gently. Then dry it and sterilize it to your protocol, and store it in a slot so the tip stays straight.
