Boley Gauges
Boley gauges are the classic sliding gauge of the dental office. You use them to measure teeth, arch widths, study models and appliance parts. We offer two versions, so the deciding factor is simply your own working style.
Deluxe or Standard: making the call
The catalogue lists a Deluxe Boley gauge and a Standard Boley gauge. Both do the same core job. The catalogue does not spell out how the two differ, so please compare the product photos before you choose. You can order each one singly, which makes it easy to keep one at the chair and one in the lab.
Everyday measuring in orthodontics
Space analysis starts with good numbers. For example, you can read tooth widths on a model and add them up to judge crowding. You can also check arch width before and after expansion. Then you have a record that is easy to compare at later visits.
Tips for repeatable figures
- Measure each tooth at its widest point.
- Use the same model or the same hand position each time.
- Lock in a habit of reading the scale at eye level.
- Record figures at once, so nothing gets mixed up.
Where Boley gauges sit in the workflow
Most offices use them at records, at planning and at retention. So a gauge on the planning desk saves trips to the lab. In addition, a second gauge in the lab helps when a technician checks an appliance against the model.
Slide and jaw care
Plaster dust and paste can clog the slide. Therefore brush the gauge clean after each use and dry it well. Also check that the jaws still meet flush, because a gap at zero means every reading is off.
Each Boley gauge leaves us non-sterile, and with routine cleaning and sterilization it stays fit for repeat use. We set the specification, and our people in the United States inspect the slide and jaws before dispatch. Both versions rely on stainless steel in keeping with ASTM F899. They share the same cover: three years against manufacturing defects, Deluxe and Standard alike.
