Beerendonk Mini Gauge, 130 mm

The Beerendonk mini gauge is a compact sliding gauge in a 130 mm size. You open the jaws, close them on the part, then read the scale. Because it is small, it fits a busy tray or a lab drawer with ease.

Why a mini gauge earns a place

A full-size gauge can feel bulky in the mouth. By contrast, a mini pattern is easier to steer near the teeth. So many clinicians keep one for quick checks and a larger gauge for the bench. In practice, both get used every week.

Measuring jobs it handles

You can use it on study models, on teeth, and on appliance parts. For instance, you might check a tooth width while planning space, or confirm the span of a band or spring. Also it helps when you compare a model with the mouth.

Getting a clean reading

• Close the jaws gently, without forcing the slide.
• Keep the gauge square to the part you measure.
• Read the scale straight on, not from an angle.
• Note the figure before you open the jaws.

Chairside or bench

This is a single item, so you will not need to choose a size. Even so, think about where it will live. On a chairside tray it sits next to tweezers and pliers. In the lab, however, it may share space with nippers and wire, so a separate pouch keeps the scale clean.

Caring for the slide

A sliding gauge needs a free slide. Therefore clean out paste or plaster before it dries. Then dry the gauge fully and check that the slide still moves smoothly. If it starts to stick, clean it again rather than forcing it.

Since the mini gauge comes non-sterile, give it a clean and sterilization cycle first; it then goes back on the tray each time you reprocess it.
