Description
Band Removing Pliers
At the end of treatment, the bands have to come off cleanly and with little discomfort. These band removing pliers lift a band off the molar while you keep good control. Three versions let you match the tool to the tooth and your own technique.
Three Versions, One Job
All three remove bands. However, the tips differ:
- Standard: the basic band removing plier.
- Curved: the catalogue lists left and right curved tips that reach and grip the band with less pull on the cheek.
- Plastic Tip: a version with a plastic tip.
We sell each one singly, so pick the style that fits your hands. If you are unsure, the Standard is a sound first choice.
Debond Day Routine
First, remove the archwire and any ligatures. Then seat the plier on the band edge and lift with a slow, rolling move. Work from the side that gives the best view. After the band is off, clear the leftover cement with a scaler.
Reaching the Back Molars
Second molars sit far back, and cheeks can get in the way. So the Curved version helps here, because its tips reach the band with less stretch of the cheek. In addition, less stretch means a calmer patient.
Patient Comfort Tips
Warn the patient that they will feel pressure, not pain. Also ask them to bite gently on a cotton roll if needed, since that steadies the jaw. Short, controlled lifts are kinder than one hard pull.
Checking Tips Between Cases
Look at the tips after each use. For the Plastic Tip version, check the tip for wear or cracks. For the metal versions, check that the tips still meet and hold. Then dry the joint before it goes into the steam cycle.
