Ball Hook Crimping Pliers
Elastics need a solid anchor point. These ball hook crimping pliers fix a small hook onto the archwire, right where you want it. So you can add hooks chairside without a new wire. The page offers an Angled and a Straight version.
A Quick Way to Add an Elastic Point
Class II and Class III elastics often run from hook to hook. Sometimes, however, the wire has no hook in the right place. A crimpable hook solves that. You slide it on, set its position, and then squeeze it closed with the plier.
Angled or Straight Head
- Angled: the angled version, which helps when you crimp on the side of the arch.
- Straight: the straight version, for a direct line of approach at the front.
- Both: many clinics keep one of each to cover every spot.
You can buy either one on its own.
A Firm, Even Squeeze
First, place the hook where the elastic should pull. Then seat the plier squarely over it. Squeeze once with steady pressure. After that, tug the hook gently to check that it holds. If it slides, crimp it again rather than use more force on the wire.
Saving Time at Adjust Visits
Adjust visits move fast. Because of that, a dedicated tool for this task saves time over a general plier. In addition, these hook crimping pliers keep the crimp neat, so the hook does not rub the cheek.
Care, Cover and Links
Rinse the crimping area after each use, then dry it well. Next, oil the joint now and then. Expect a non-sterile plier in the box, so wash and sterilize it before it meets each patient. The steel meets ASTM F899. Each plier follows our specification, and a United States inspection comes before it leaves us. Our guarantee on this item is three years against manufacturing defects. To place the elastics, see our elastic module instrument. More tools are in our orthodontics category, and the FAQ page answers other questions.
