Ball Filling Instruments
A ball-ended working tip is one of the most versatile shapes on a restorative tray. Clinicians use it to adapt and burnish amalgam, to smooth margins and to shape fissure anatomy. Every ball filling instrument on this page comes from the filling instruments pages of our supplier catalogue. Nine options are available, built from five figures and their alternate handle styles.
The Five Figure Numbers
The figures are Fig. 18, Fig. 26-27, Fig. 26-27S, Fig. 27-27 and Fig. 27-29. A hyphenated figure such as 26-27 typically names the two ends of a double-ended instrument. Likewise, 27-27 suggests the same figure on both ends. The catalogue adds an S to one version of 26-27 without explaining it, so compare that photo with the plain 26-27. Fig. 18 is the single-number figure in the group.
What Style 2 and Style 3 Mean
The catalogue shows several of these figures more than once, on different pages. Style 2 is that second ball row: the same figure, shown with a handle the catalogue leaves unnamed. Fig. 18 also has a Style 3, a third row. So Fig. 18 comes in three handle versions, while Figs. 26-27 and 27-29 each come in two. Compare the photos and choose the handle that matches your current tray.
Matching a Ball Figure to the Task
- Compare ball diameters in the photos: a smaller ball suits fissures
- A larger ball covers broad occlusal surfaces with fewer strokes
- Double-ended figures save an instrument change mid-procedure
Every ball instrument is examined for round, polished tips by our United States team before shipping. Then, since each ball instrument leaves us non-sterile, wash and autoclave it before patient contact. In addition, Intrace USA offers each ball figure and style three years against manufacturing defects tip to handle.
Our steel meets ASTM F899 for stainless surgical instruments. Browse the restorative instrument range, finish anatomy with Cleoid-Discoid Carvers, or read our FAQs.
