Description

Arch Forming and Torquing Pliers

Torque is the finishing touch in many cases. These arch forming and torquing pliers have flat, parallel beaks that grip rectangular wire across its width. As a result, you can twist a short section and place torque where a tooth needs it. Four versions differ in tip width and wire range.

Finishing Stage, Rectangular Wire

Late in treatment, you often move to rectangular wire. The wire then sits snugly in the slot, so a twist in it turns the root. Two pliers are often used together: one holds, while the other twists. That way, the torque stays in the right spot.

Tip Widths and Rated Wire

  • Tweed, Rectangular: handles .012″ through .028″ wire; its largest rectangular size is .022″ by .028″.
  • Tweed, 1.78 mm (.070″): wide tips, rated from .012″ through .028″, with the same rectangular ceiling.
  • Angle 1.27mm (.050″): medium tips for .012″ through .022″ wire, topping out at .021″ by .025″.
  • Slim 0.64mm (.025″): narrow tips for .012″ through .020″ wire, with a cap of .016″ by .022″.

How to Match Plier to Wire

First, check the wire size you use most. Then pick a version whose maximum covers it. For example, a .022″ slot case with full-size wire points to a Tweed version. A smaller wire, by contrast, may suit the Slim plier, since narrow tips reach between close brackets. We sell each version singly, so a pair for holding and twisting is easy to build.

Look After the Beak Faces

Flat faces must stay flat to grip well. So never use these pliers to cut or to bend round wire hard. After each use, clean and dry the beaks, then oil the joint. Clean and sterilize the plier before its first case, because it reaches you non-sterile; after that it works patient after patient.

Warranty and Where to Go Next

Our plier is produced to our own specification and then inspected in our United States facility. The stainless steel follows ASTM F899. A beak that fails from a build fault gets fixed or swapped, since our term is three years against manufacturing defects. For a ready group, see the torquing pliers set.
