Amalgam Well Stainless Steel
A stainless steel amalgam well gives freshly mixed alloy a clean, stable home during the restoration. The dentist or assistant empties the capsule into the well. Then the carrier presses into the mix, picks up an increment and heads to the tooth. Because the well keeps the alloy gathered in one place, each pickup is quick and consistent.

Why Steel Instead of Disposable Cups
Paper and plastic dappen cups get thrown away after every patient. A steel well, however, goes back through the sterilizer and returns to the tray. It also has weight, so it stays put when the carrier pushes down. In addition, steel will not soften or crack under heat.
Setting Up the Amalgam Tray
Place the well beside the carrier and condensers, close to the side the assistant works from. Then the transfer from mix to carrier takes a second. After the last increment, tip out any leftover alloy into your amalgam waste container, never the sink. Finally, scrub the cavity and send the well through the autoclave alongside its tray.
