Description
Adams Wire Bending Pliers
Adams bending pliers are a staple for clasp and retainer work in round wire. You grip the wire firmly, then fold it into clasps, loops and hooks with steady control. We list five patterns, and you can order any one on its own.
Clasps and retainers at the bench
Most removable work starts with an Adams clasp. This plier lets you shape the arrowheads and the bridge in a few firm moves. It also helps with small tweaks when a retainer comes back for a check. As a result, many labs keep one at every bench.
Five Adams patterns side by side
- Clasp Bending: a wire, arch and clasp bending pattern for general clasp work.
- Loop Forming, Large: takes round wire from .014” up to .032”.
- Loop Forming, Small: tops out at .028” round, so it suits finer loops.
- Hook Bending: forms hooks and bends wire as heavy as .030”.
- Standard: the everyday choice, good to .032” round.
Both loop patterns and the Standard also accept rectangular wire to .022 x .028 in. If you are unsure, start with the Standard, then add a loop pattern later.
Clasp wire and the rated limit
Heavy wire can spring the beaks when you force it. So keep each bend within the range for your pattern. For thicker clasp wire, check the figure first and then choose your Adams bending pliers.
Holding the beaks to the light
Before a session, close the plier and hold it up to a lamp. The tips should meet evenly with no gap. Also, dry the joint well after cleaning so the action stays free.
Ordering your Adams pattern
Every plier follows our own drawing, and a US-based team inspects each one by hand. For the beaks, our stainless steel answers to ASTM F899. It leaves our shelf non-sterile. After your usual wash and sterilising cycle, it then serves case after case. Should a flaw from production appear, our guarantee stretches to three years against manufacturing defects on this plier. For clasp work with a different shape, see the Nance-Adams clasp plier, or browse our full orthodontic plier line. Order help sits on our FAQ page.
