Yeoman Rectal Biopsy Forceps

Yeoman biopsy forceps take tissue samples from the rectum through a proctoscope or rigid sigmoidoscope. You choose a length and one of four jaw figures.

Three lengths

The 28 cm size suits a short proctoscope. Meanwhile, 35 cm and 42 cm reach further through a longer scope. So match the length to the scope you use most.

Four jaw figures

Fig 1 to Fig 4 are different jaw patterns, as the manufacturer’s catalogue shows them. The photo for each option shows its jaw. Also, if you are replacing an instrument, match its figure number.

Choosing a figure

Each figure has its own jaw shape, so the choice depends on the sample you need. For example, a deeper cup takes a larger piece of mucosa, while a finer jaw suits small or flat lesions. Because hospitals often standardise on one figure, check what your team already uses. Also, keep one spare of each length you stock, so a worn jaw never delays a list. If you are unsure which figure to order, send us the old one’s markings.

Care of Yeoman biopsy forceps

Rinse blood from the cups before it dries. Then clean the long shaft and the joint in an ultrasonic bath if you have one. Afterwards, lubricate the joint lightly and test the bite on paper.
