Description
Rectal Biopsy Specimen Forceps
These rectal biopsy forceps take small mucosal samples through a rigid proctoscope or sigmoidoscope. The long shaft reaches the site while your hand stays clear of the scope.
Standard or turnable shaft
The 38 cm standard model has a fixed jaw. By contrast, the 42 cm turnable model lets you rotate the jaw on its shaft. As a result, you can face the tissue without twisting the whole instrument inside the scope.
Five jaw figures
The turnable model comes in Fig 1 to Fig 5. Each figure is a different jaw pattern from the manufacturer’s catalogue. So if you are replacing a worn instrument, match the figure number on your current one. Also, you can call us and we will confirm the pattern before we ship.
The handle-only option
Teams that already own compatible shafts can order the handle on its own. However, please confirm the fit with us first, because we would rather check than guess.
Working through the scope
Most teams pass the forceps down a rigid scope with the patient in the left lateral or knee-chest position. First, bring the target into view and steady the scope. Next, open the jaw just before contact, then close it firmly and withdraw with a short, clean pull. Also, place each sample straight into its labelled pot, since several bites often come from different levels. Finally, check the cups are empty before the next pass, because a retained fragment can mix specimens.
Care of rectal biopsy forceps
Open the jaw and flush the shaft straight after the procedure. Next, work a soft brush into the cup, then dry every part. Finally, confirm the jaw closes evenly before the next clinic.
