Scudder Intestinal Clamp Forceps

The Scudder intestinal clamp has long jaws for holding bowel across its width. It comes in 25 cm and 33 cm, straight or curved.

Smooth or atraumatic jaws

Smooth jaws come in both lengths. Meanwhile, the 33 cm size also comes with atraumatic jaws for extra care on bowel you keep.

Straight or curved

The straight version crosses the bowel squarely. Alternatively, the curved one follows the mesentery and deeper loops of bowel.

Handling long jaws

The long jaws span wide bowel and hold contents back during division or a join. So choose the length that crosses the bowel with a little to spare, because a short bite can let the tips slip. During the case, keep the clamp parallel to the wound edge, where it is least likely to catch other instruments. After the join, ease the ratchet one tooth at a time and look along the bowel wall for any bruising before you move on.

Clean the full length of the jaws after use. Next, dry the clamp and check the jaws meet evenly before sterilization.
