Description
Wire Twister, Blunt, 15 cm
Interdental and intermaxillary wiring depends on tight, even twists. This blunt wire twister grips the free ends of the wire and turns them together until the loop sits snug against the teeth. The 15 cm length gives enough reach for posterior arches, yet it stays easy to rotate in one hand.
Why the Tip Is Blunt
The catalogue lists this pattern as a blunt wire twister of 6 inches, or 15 cm. A rounded, blunt working end means there is no point to snag the gingiva or lip while you twist. Therefore, you can work close to soft tissue during fixation without nicking it. The wire is held by the jaws, not by a sharp tip.
Standard or Tungsten Carbide
- Standard: stainless steel jaws throughout, a straightforward choice for occasional wiring.
- Tungsten Carbide: the same 15 cm pattern with carbide in the jaws, which resists wear from repeated wire twisting.
So the choice comes down to workload. If your team wires jaws often, the carbide inserts keep their grip for longer. If wiring is rare, however, the Standard version covers the task well.
Wiring Tasks It Handles
Surgeons use a twister when placing Ivy loops, Ernst ligatures and arch bar wires. It also helps when tightening circumdental wires after a fracture reduction. In each case, the goal is a firm twist that does not kink or snap.
Twister Inspection and Sterility
The body is stainless steel, and each twister gets a jaw alignment check from US-based staff before dispatch. Because it ships unsterilized, clean and autoclave each twister prior to its first fixation case. Either jaw option is guaranteed three years against manufacturing defects, carbide inserts included.
