Unna-Vidal Comedone Extractor
The Unna-Vidal comedone extractor is a double ended skin instrument, 13 cm long. One end carries a fine lancet, and the other end carries a small loop, so you can open a lesion and clear it without changing tools.
Lancet first, loop second
Use the lancet to open the surface of a closed comedone or a milium. Then turn the instrument and press the loop around the opening with light, even pressure. Because the loop spreads the force, it clears the contents with less bruising than finger pressure.
Choosing an Unna-Vidal comedone extractor
This pattern suits clinics that want one tool for both steps. By contrast, the Saalfeld and Katsch patterns use a spoon with a hole instead of a loop, which some practitioners find steadier on flat skin. Also consider the compact Schamberg if you work around the nose.
Care
Clean the lancet and loop right after use, because dried sebum is hard to remove. Next, wash with a neutral detergent, rinse, dry, and sterilize to your protocol. Finally, keep the lancet tip covered in storage.
