Tissue Punches
A dental tissue punch removes a clean, circular plug of gingiva so the clinician can reach bone or an implant cover screw without raising a full flap. These stainless steel punches come in nine options, split between a straight design and an offset design. Choose by diameter first, then by how you will approach the site.
Straight Punches: 4.0, 5.0 and 6.0 mm
The Straight versions keep the cutting ring in line with the shaft. As a result, they feel natural in anterior and premolar areas where you can approach the ridge head on. Three diameters cover the most common implant platforms, so a small practice can start here.
Offset Punches From 2.0 to 8.0 mm
The Offset versions angle the cutting end away from the shaft. That bend helps in molar regions, where a straight shaft would collide with the opposing arch. In addition, the offset line extends the size range at both ends:
- 2.0 mm for a narrow pilot opening
- 4.0, 5.0 and 6.0 mm for standard platforms
- 7.0 and 8.0 mm for wide implants and larger healing abutments
Matching the Punch to the Implant
Most surgeons pick a diameter close to the implant or healing abutment they plan to place. Next, they check the tissue band around the circle, because keeping attached gingiva matters for the final result. When in doubt, start one size smaller, since a punch cannot put tissue back.
Inspection, Sterility and Coverage
Every punch is examined by hand in the United States before dispatch. We cover the ring and the shaft alike for three years against manufacturing defects. Because the punches leave our shelf non-sterile, process them through cleaning and sterilization before the first procedure.
The stainless steel conforms to ASTM F899. Explore all dental implant instruments, check site depth afterward with our Implant Probe, or read the FAQs.
