Description
Thomson Root Elevators
Thomson root elevators come in six graded patterns, #1 to #6. Many clinics keep a few of them on the surgical tray for years. Then one goes missing, or its tip wears down, and the set no longer feels whole. This page lets you buy back just the figure you need.
Six Thomson grades
The options are #1, #2, #3, #4, #5 and #6. Each one is a separate item, so you can order a single grade or several. We do not list exact blade shapes here. Instead, check the number stamped on your old figure and match it.
When a figure needs replacing
- The tip has a chip, burr or flat spot you can see.
- Honing no longer brings back a clean edge.
- The shank has a bend that was not there before.
- A figure went missing during reprocessing.
Any of these is a good reason to retire the old one. A worn elevator slips more, and slips cost time.
Choosing a grade for the case
First, look at the root and the space you have to reach it. Next, try the grade you think fits best. If it feels too tight or too loose, step one grade up or down. In time, most users settle on two or three favorites.
Safe handling with Thomson elevators
Ease the Thomson blade down beside the root, wedging it with small, gentle turns. Brace a finger on solid tissue so a slip stops short. Also, never lean on a neighbor as your fulcrum when that tooth will stay. Where an implant is planned, keep the buccal bone intact.
Restocking your Thomson set
Thomson figures are made to our specification. Before dispatch, every one passes inspection in the United States. For the metal, we chose a stainless steel covered by ASTM F899. You receive it non-sterile; after a wash and an autoclave run, it stays ready for many cases. Our pledge on this item is simple: three years against manufacturing defects, and a faulty figure comes back to us for a fix or swap.
