Setting It Up

First, pour in enough disinfectant to cover the bulb end. Then stand the thermometer in it. Follow your product label for strength and contact time. Change the liquid on the schedule your protocol sets, and wash the jar each time.

A Few Cautions

Glass thermometers can chip if you drop them in hard. So lower them in gently. Also wipe the jar after use, because dried disinfectant can leave a film. If you use digital probes, check that your maker allows them to soak.

Cleaning the Tube

The jar ships non-sterile. A thin bottle brush reaches the bottom of a stainless thermometer jar. Then rinse and dry it well. After that, you can put it through a heat cycle and use it again.
