Description
Taylor Reflex Hammer
The Taylor reflex hammer is the familiar triangular design: a wedge of rubber on a flat handle. It is light and quick, and you can buy it in 18 cm and 20 cm lengths.
Broad edge and apex
Use the broad edge for large tendons such as the patellar and Achilles. Then turn the hammer and use the pointed apex for small targets, for example the biceps tendon under your thumb. Because the head is light, you need a quick flick of the wrist rather than a full swing.
Which length of Taylor reflex hammer?
The 18 cm hammer fits a coat pocket and suits most students. In contrast, the 20 cm version gives a little more reach and a longer lever, so the tap carries more speed. Both share the same head, so the choice comes down to your hand and your pocket.
Care
Wipe the rubber head with a detergent that suits rubber, since strong solvents harden it. Then clean the handle, dry the whole hammer, and store it away from heat.
