Tabb Knife

The Tabb knife is a fine ear knife for myringoplasty and tympanoplasty. Surgeons use it for small incisions and for work on the canal skin and eardrum flap.

Designed for eardrum repair

Myringoplasty closes a hole in the eardrum. First, the surgeon prepares the edges of the perforation. Then they raise a flap and place a graft beneath or over the defect. A small, sharp blade helps with each of these steps.

One length on offer

The Tabb pattern comes at 15 cm overall. That length lets the surgeon rest the hand outside the ear while the tip works under the microscope. However, we do not list the blade dimensions, so please ask us for them.

Early in the procedure

Surgeons may use the blade to freshen the rim of a perforation, because a raw edge helps a graft take. Also, they may incise canal skin before they elevate the flap. So the instrument usually appears in the first minutes of the case.

Pairing it well

A cutting tool works best beside a fine elevator and gentle suction. Then the surgeon can cut, lift and clear the field in quick succession. We stock several elevators, so you can build a matched group.

Caring for your Tabb knife

Hold the handle, never the blade, while you clean it. Next, rinse off the detergent and dry the instrument with a soft cloth. Finally, sit it in a holder that keeps the edge clear during sterilization.
