Caplan tonsil scissors are long scissors for deep work in the throat. Surgeons use them to dissect tissue during tonsillectomy and other oropharyngeal procedures.

At 22 cm, the Caplan pattern outreaches every other pair in our tonsil range. So it suits larger patients or deeper fields. The extra length also keeps the hand well away from the mouth.

Straight or curved

We offer two versions: Straight and Curved. A straight pair gives a direct line to the tissue. A curved pair, meanwhile, follows the rounded shape of the tonsil fossa.

Using a long scissors

Long scissors magnify small hand movements at the tips. Therefore, many surgeons rest the shaft against a gag or a finger for control. With practice, the reach becomes a clear advantage.

Which version to choose

If you mostly follow a curved plane, choose the curved pair. On the other hand, straight blades suit direct cuts and trimming. Many trays carry one of each.

Caring for your Caplan tonsil scissors

Clean the long blades right after the case, before debris dries in the joint. Next, open the pair and scrub the pivot gently. Dry it fully, then sterilize it in a tray long enough to hold it flat.
