Description
Surgical Knives KM3/4
The KM3/4 surgical knife is a periodontal knife pattern for cutting gingival tissue during flap and soft tissue procedures. We supply it singly here, as the same KM3/4 instrument found in our surgical sets. Every knife is reviewed by our Georgia team before shipping, which means it receives a US inspection.
Reading the KM3/4 Name
Paired figure numbers such as 3/4 normally mark a double-ended instrument with mirror-image ends. That arrangement lets the surgeon cut on both sides of the arch without changing tools. However, the catalogue lists this knife as a set item with no further details. So please check the product photo to confirm the blade shape before you order.
Where a Fixed Periodontal Knife Fits
Scalpel handles with disposable blades suit long, straight incisions. Fixed periodontal knives, on the other hand, are shaped to reach interdental tissue and awkward line angles. For example, a surgeon may outline a flap with a scalpel and then use a periodontal knife between teeth. Because the blade is part of the instrument, it needs regular sharpening to stay effective. A sharpening stone and a test stick help here, and a dull KM3/4 surgical knife tends to tear rather than slice, so many offices hone it after each use.
Material, Cover and Preparation
The knife is stainless steel produced to ASTM F899. It also comes with our assurance of three years against manufacturing defects. Since it ships non-sterile, clean and sterilize it, and check the edge, before the first procedure.
The ASTM F899 page covers the steel. Browse Diagnostic, Periodontal & Restorative Instruments for more surgical tools, or add a Kirkland knife for broader gingival cuts. Common questions are handled in our FAQs.
Surgical knives are for trained dental surgeons and periodontists only. Find blade handling advice on care and sterilization and order timing on shipping and delivery.
