Description
13K/TG Surgical Chisels
Osseous periodontal surgery often calls for bone removal in thin shavings rather than chunks. The 13K/TG chisel is a hand chisel for that work. A periodontist pushes it along alveolar bone to plane ledges and smooth contours. You can order it in titanium or in stainless steel, and both carry the same 13K/TG pattern name.
Titanium Versus Stainless Steel
The options differ in metal and in their source set:
- Titanium: sold in our supplier’s perio surgery set. Choose it if your office already runs titanium periodontal instruments.
- Stainless Steel: sold in the periotome and osteotome set. It matches a conventional steel tray.
Because the pattern name is shared, the decision comes down to material preference. So compare the photos, then pick the metal that matches your existing kit.
Hand Pressure, Not a Mallet
This instrument works by controlled push strokes. First, rest the edge flat on bone at the ledge you want to reduce. Next, advance it with steady finger and palm pressure, using a fulcrum on nearby teeth. Then lift the shaving away and repeat. Also, mind which way the bevel faces, since it steers how deep each stroke goes.
Protecting a Fine Cutting Edge
A chisel only planes cleanly when its edge is keen. Therefore, store it in a slot or cassette where the tip touches nothing. In addition, check the edge after every cycle, since a dull chisel skids instead of cutting. When it no longer bites, plan a sharpening session before the next case.
From Our Bench to Your Tray
A technician in the United States sights down every 13K/TG edge prior to packing. It comes non-sterile; a thorough wash and autoclave are required first. Whichever metal you pick, a titanium or steel chisel that fails early is replaced: our pledge is three years against manufacturing defects, edge wear aside.
Our steel option conforms to ASTM F899. For a bevel-in companion, see our Ochsenbein chisels. Then explore the periodontal and restorative instruments category or our FAQs on titanium orders.
Meant for periodontists and trained surgical staff only. Edge storage advice lives in care and sterilization; courier choices live in shipping and delivery.
