Schluger Periodontal Files
During periodontal flap surgery, bone between the teeth may need smoothing where a chisel edge would be too aggressive. The Schluger periodontal file is a named pattern with a filing surface for that kind of recontouring. Our Atlanta team at Intrace USA, a distributor, stocks two handle versions, and every file passes a visual review in the United States prior to dispatch.
Filing Versus Chiseling
A chisel shaves bone with a defined edge. By contrast, a file works with a push and pull stroke across a roughened face. So the file suits gentle smoothing and blending in tight interdental zones. Many surgeons use a chisel first, then refine the contour with a file.
Two Handles for One Figure
- Fig 9/10: the Schluger file as the catalogue lists it, a paired figure with two ends.
- Fig 9/10, Style 2: the same Schluger figure on a second handle pattern from the next catalogue page; compare the photos.
The catalogue does not describe how the two handles differ. Therefore, choose the one that looks closer to the rest of your surgical cassette. Still undecided? Trial both and keep whichever handle your fingers favour.
Clearing Bone Debris From the File Face
Bone particles pack into the file surface quickly during surgery. So brush the face along its pattern while it is still wet, then rinse and dry. Each file comes to you non-sterile and needs thorough cleaning and steam sterilization before the first surgical case. Both handle versions share a guarantee covering three years against manufacturing defects.
The steel is made to ASTM F899. You can see related periodontal surgery tools in the periodontal and restorative category, pair the file with Rhodes Back-Action Chisels for initial bone shaping, or check the Intrace USA FAQ page.
Offered to trained periodontal and oral surgeons only. Please follow our steel instrument sterilization guide and review our shipping policy on receipt.
