Description
Splinter Forceps
Splinter forceps have slim arms that taper to fine points. So they pick up a splinter, thorn or glass sliver close to the skin without crushing it.
Fine pointed tips
The tips meet along a short, narrow bite. Because of that, you can close them on a sliver that sits just under the surface and draw it straight out.
Sharp-point version
The 10 cm pair also comes with sharper points. Those points slip under the edge of a buried fragment, so you can lift it before you grip it.
Three lengths
The 10 cm size gives the closest control for fingers and hands. Meanwhile, the 12.5 and 13 cm sizes add reach and suit larger hands or a deeper wound.
Where they get used
First aid rooms, urgent care clinics and school nurses keep a pair within reach. Also, podiatrists and dermatology clinics use them for thorns and hair fragments. A good splinter pair should close with light pressure and hold without slipping. So test the points on a thin paper edge when a new pair arrives. If you remove splinters often, keep one pair for clean work and one for dirty wounds. That habit also stretches the time between reprocessing cycles.
Cleaning splinter forceps
Wipe the tips after each use, since debris hides in the fine bite. Next, wash and brush the forceps, rinse them and dry them fully. Then check that the points still meet before you sterilize them.
