Description
Brophy Dressing & Tissue Forceps
Brophy forceps are a slim 20 cm pattern with a fine tip. They come serrated or toothed, and straight or curved.
Serrated or 1:2
Serrated tips hold sutures and dressings. Meanwhile, 1:2 teeth give a firm grip on tissue.
Straight or curved
A straight Brophy tip moves in line with your fingers. By contrast, curved tips reach around structures in tight spaces.
A slim profile
The narrow arms keep the view clear. So the Brophy forceps suit oral and plastic surgery.
Choosing a version
Pick the curved version for work in the mouth or deep cavities. Then keep a straight pair for general handling. Also, the serrated tip suits suture work, while the 1:2 tip suits tissue. In addition, Brophy forceps suit cleft and oral surgery, where space is tight. Meanwhile, the long body keeps your hand out of the mouth. Therefore oral and plastic surgeons often keep a curved pair on the tray. Also, the Brophy forceps help at the palate and lip, since the slim tip passes between sutures without disturbing them. For example, a cleft surgeon might keep both a straight and a curved pair.
Looking after Brophy forceps
Rinse the Brophy tips after use. Next, brush them gently and dry the forceps. Then store them so the slim ends stay aligned.
