Description
Adlerkreutz Tissue Forceps
Adlerkreutz forceps are a multi-tooth tissue pattern. Three sizes are available: 15, 20 and 25 cm.
2:3 or 4:5 teeth
The 2:3 version gives a firm but compact grip. Meanwhile, the 4:5 version spreads the hold across a wider tip.
Three lengths
At 15 cm, the Adlerkreutz suits superficial layers. By contrast, the 20 and 25 cm Adlerkreutz forceps suit deep abdominal layers.
Even pressure
Because the teeth share the load, the Adlerkreutz forceps mark tissue less. So they suit softer layers.
Choosing teeth
Pick 2:3 teeth for general tissue. Then choose 4:5 teeth for soft or fragile layers. Also, the 25 cm size helps in the abdomen. In addition, Adlerkreutz forceps suit abdominal and gynaecological closure. Meanwhile, the long sizes reach the pelvis. So they often sit next to Russian forceps on the tray. Also, the Adlerkreutz forceps help hold peritoneum and fatty layers without slipping. For example, a 20 cm 2:3 pair suits most abdominal closures. Meanwhile, the 4:5 version spreads the grip for fragile layers. So one pattern covers firm and soft tissue alike, from the rectus sheath to the peritoneum.
Cleaning Adlerkreutz forceps
Rinse between the Adlerkreutz teeth soon after use. Afterwards, scrub the tips with a nylon brush and dry them. Then store the longer sizes flat.
